NLC nationwide strike to go ahead today

The leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress including President of
the NLC, Mr Ayuba Wabba, walked out of the meeting held Tuesday with
the representatives of the Federal Government, vowing to go ahead with
its scheduled nationwide strike today.

Representatives of the Trade Union Congress, who also attended the
meeting, however, said the TUC would not join the strike.

This is contrary to the agreement the Joe Ajaero-led faction of the
Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) had with the federal government team led
by Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole.

Oshiomhole while the addressing journalists said the union reached an
agreement with federal government to set up a committee to resolve
agitations over the new pump price of petrol.

The Federal Government had on Tuesday dragged the NLC, TUC and their
affiliates before the National Industrial Court seeking to stop the
looming strike threatened by the Labour group over the fuel pump price
increment.

"NECs of the NLC, TUC and CSO's met, and harmonized the positions,
that a complete reversal of prices PMS, high electricity tariff and
commencement of a structured inclusive multi-stakeholders dialogue
process; by 12am on Tuesday, all members are to commence a general
strike and Mass Action on Wednesday."
