IMSU lecturer bombs Okorocha: You are the real ‘academic saboteurs'

A fresh bombshell was released Tuesday from a member of the Academic
Staff Union of Universities, Imo University chapter (ASUU) this time
accusing Governor Rochas Okorocha of current plans to stop the state
owned university from functioning in order to create opportunities for
official take off of his new university.

A member of the Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU) said in his
office that the governor left all financial troubles facing the state
especially the only state owned university to chase selfish gain of
acquiring licence for the take off of his private university.

ASUU is poised to stop and correct those evils perpetrated by some of
our leaders." He stated.
He disclosed that the union had almost concluded negotiations with the
Zenith Bank over the settlement of the problems when the governor in
his pride and ego came to stop an almost concluded understanding with
the bank for the students to get back to the classes and to call off
the strike.

The unionist regretted that both the strike action and the governor;s
reaction all came at the time the medical crew of accreditation
committee was coming to supervise the facilities at the (IMSU) Medical
School for onward accreditation.

According to him, the governor is the real saboteur of academic works'
in the institution. He does not mean well for the university which
lacks academic research, seminars especially those compulsory for
educational development.

Meanwhile, the governor recently called the strike action in a release
issued concerning the ASUU one month strike action as sabotage to the
free education programme. He accused those behind the action of strike
as enemies of free education.

Okorocha further stated that the strike action was baseless as ASUU
was owed only one month salaries arrears and were paid full salaries
instead of what government agreed with the organized labour (NLC) for
30 over 70% payment.

He also said that despite ASUU's claim of not being part of NLC, the
government paid them all full salaries following high regard
government places on education while ASUU was cashing in on that to
make unnecessary demands.

The governor also said that he increased IMSU monthly subvention form
N57m to N287m because of the free education without IMSU producing
kobo as (IGR) since his inception and begged ASUU to revert their
decision.
