IMSU VC dissociates self from students protest

The acting Vice Chancellor of Imo State University, Prof. Victoria
Adaobi Obasi has distanced herself from the recent protest embarked
upon by the students of Imo State University, noting that they did not
seek her consent before taking to the street. Interacting with the
press on Tuesday in her office, Obasi said that though the students of
the institution had gone on strike that she had been meeting with
different groups in and out of the institution to ensure that workers
return to their work.

The acting VC pointed out that she does not support the protest
basically because the situations which she described as her children
could get injured and harmed while protesting on the street.

She also assured that she has been able to bring together all the
stakeholders involve while assuring that very soon the strike would be
called off. Obasi also averred that despite the fact that the staff
were on strike, she made sure that all their students that were going
for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) were given a first lift so
that the strike would not affect their going, assuring that all of
them went for the NYSC.

The VC however condemned the strike in strong voice, pointing out that
it will do no good to the institution because they cannot admit new
students if they are on strike while calling on all the aggrieved
groups to sheathe their sword and call off the strike for the interest
of the future of the institution and Imo children. She however assured
that the strike would soon be over because the ongoing dialogue with
the stakeholders is producing a positive result.
