PHOTOS: ‘RAG DAY’ as celebrated in IMSU

The rag day is a day set aside for students most especially newly admitted, to generate fund which is aimed at taking care of some bills in their academic pursuit.

Today, students of imo state university observed the ‘RAG DAY’ for fundraising and excitement purposes.
The students who wore torn clothes took to the street of owerri metropolis in their RAG stickers soliciting for financial assistance from well meaning people in polite and ethical manners.

Commenting on the activity, a student from library and information science imo state university owerri said ”when you return from RAG DAY, you will become very tired and useless for the whole day”. In fact, I don’t advise students to rag because most often they are being harassed by people they meet on their way”.

Also speaking, 300 level student of department of mass communication imo state university, said that he had once taken part in the exercise in 2015. He expressed that the exercise was a kind of an experience one would wish to have any other time though he did not make so much money in his first outing.

‘My intention of participating was to make enough money but that was not the case. But in my second experience, I made like N7, 000. It was fun indeed’ he added.
Confirming the development, a female student from education government disclosed that the exercise is not a must, but an act of willingness. She stated that since three years in the University, she had never taken part in the exercise and had not given any penalty for not participating.
