Imo State has maintained leading position with the highest number of JAMB applications. – Registrar

The Registrar/Chief Executive of the
Joint Admissions and Matriculation
Board, JAMB, Prof. Ishaq .O. Oloyede
has said that Imo State has consistently
maintained a leading position with the
highest number of JAMB applications
for five years.
Prof. Oloyede gave the hint when he
visited Governor Rochas Okorocha
with his team on a Courtesy Call at the
Government House Owerri on
Thursday, Nov. 17, 2016, stating that
for the five years under review, Imo
State has remained on top.
With these developments, Prof.
Oloyede regretted that Imo State has
only three Universities while Ogun
and Osun States have 14 and 8
respectively, adding that it was crystal
clear that Imo State does not have the
number of Universities to
accommodate its multitude of
Candidates.
He explained that the free education
programme in the State must have
been the reason for the State's
unbeatable record of having the
highest number of applications in
JAMB for the five years in question,
calling on the State Government to
urgently encourage the establishment
of Private Universities in the State.
In his response, Governor Okorocha
said the State would sustain its free
education programme at all cost,
hinting that more resources would be
provided for education.
