Imo government inaugurates joint committee to review payment of workers’ salaries

The Imo State government has
inaugurated a joint committee of
labour movement and government to
review the payment of workers'
salaries and other emoluments.

The 10-man committee, which is
headed by the Chief of Staff,
Government House, Owerri, Uche
Nwosu, was inaugurated on behalf of
governor Rochas Okorocha by the
deputy governor, Eze Madumere.
Okorocha explained that the main
objective of the committee was to
harmonise and cement the
relationship between government and
labour, adding that the relationship
between them had been long, leading
to the government granting the
request of payment formula to
workers in the state in line with the
dwindling economy.

He said the effort was to fashion a way
to execute government businesses
without injuring the welfare of the
workers during the economic
downturn.

The governor insisted that he has not
lost interest in the welfare of the
workers.

Okorocha also added that the process
was to strengthen the cooperation
between the two.

He charged labour leaders in the
committee to situate their interest in
line with the realities of the time.
