IMSU strike: ASUU to stop 2016 JAMB admission

The national body of Academic Staff Union of Universities, Abuja has
ordered that unless the face-off between Imo State government and the
IMSU chapter of ASUU was resolved, there would be no Jamb admission
for candidates of Imo State University choice in 2016 academic year.

Revealing this, an executive member of the ASUU in State chapter who
pleaded anonymity said none of the resolutions reached with government
has been fulfilled.

"We expect the state government to pay April salary as agreed, then
the university management and council would seek for funds and pay
part of the many allowances owed to the university staff. This is
minimum requirement after which we come back and continue negotiations
with government on how to pay the remaining allowances."

The ASUU officer further disclosed that the governor in another fast
move allowed the institution to collect fees of non indigenous
students of about 3000 students which is less than nearly 25,000
students of Imo origin and also refused to pay them allowances which
he agreed to clear when ASUU threatened strike last time, causing the
removal of former ASUU chairman and suspension from NEC meetings.

On whether national headquarters of ASUU gave the order to sabotage
the free education in Imo State, he remarked that Okorocha has not
done enough to demonstrate the genuineness of his intention to sustain
the free education in his state.

He stated that the institute of continue education, post graduate
school and sandwich are dying because they are charged higher and stay
longer than they should. Most of the student complain that they are
not enjoying the free education. Other students enjoy in the school
while they are also indigenes.
