Imolites wail as Okorocha abandons state function for Abuja

Imolites were bemused and openly expressed their dismay over the
abrupt call off of the scheduled inauguration of the Chairman,
Managing Director and Commissioners of the Imo State Oil Producing
Area Development Commission (ISOPADEC) billed to hold at Sam Mbakwe
Expanded Exco Chambers, Government House, Owerri.

Over 2000 invited guests and the concerned individuals for the
inaugurations have already filled the venue waiting for the arrival of
the governor for the commencement of the event.

Some people came as early as 8 am for the event and after waiting for
over four hours, a top government official (name withheld) stood to
dismiss them, announcing the cancellation of the inauguration on the
ground that the governor, Owelle Rochas Anayo Okorocha was airborne to
Abuja to attend to a more important government business.

The official also quickly apologized to the people on behalf of the
governor and the state government for any inconvenience the
development may cause them while assuring that in a shortest
convenient time, the event will be rescheduled and communicated
accordingly.

He however broke the camel's back when he revealed that the state
government had an alternative plan for the Deputy Governor, Prince Eze
Madumere to carry out the inauguration in the instance of the governor
but later thought otherwise to cancel the event indefinitely, reasons
being that the inauguration is a very sensitive one that will not be
left for the deputy governor or any other to perform.

This did not go down well with many Imolites present at the venue who
therefore questioned the credibility and authority of the deputy
governor and his office if he cannot act or be allowed to act in the
stead of the governor in a state function of such nature.

Some people opined that the development goes to tell that Eze Madumere
is only but stooge in the hands of Okorocha as he lacks the political
will and prowess to act when the chips are down except when pushed.

Others are on the contrary, extolling him as a humble subordinate who
obeys the directives of his boss to the letter and does not have any
reason to impose himself to a responsibility that is not assigned to
him by the governor even when the constitution and state laws empowers
him to do so.
