Onitsha mayhem: President Buhari meets with Igbo group

President Muhammadu Buhari has received South East Group for Change
led by Senator Ken Nnamani in Statehouse on May 31, 2016.
This came a day after the pro-Biafran activists commemorating the
anniversary of Biafra Republic clashed with the Nigerian army in
Onitsha.

Late General Ojukwu had led the secession of the old Eastern Region
and declared the region the Republic of Biafra on May 30, 1967.
His attempt to break away from Nigeria led to the three-year Nigerian
Civil War and Biafra's defeat.
Meanwhile, in recent years, MASSOB and later IPOB have appeared, with
its members attempting to revive the ghost of Biafra.

Nnamani being asked by the journalists on whether the issue of Biafra
came up for discussion during the meeting with: "No, no, not now."
President Buhari has said that agitation for an independent state of
Biafra "would not be tolerated" as Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the
group is accused of treasonable felony.

Buhari insisted that his government would ensure continuous existence
of Nigeria as a united entity.
