House of Assembly has set up a committee to interface with the
leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Imo
State University, IMSU chapter, over the ongoing strike in the state.
The motion to set up the committee was moved on Tuesday by the Deputy
Speaker Imo State House of Assembly, Hon. Ugonna Ozurigbo who is
representing Nwangele state constituency.
He said that the protracted strike embarked upon by the IMSU
lecturers, should be looked into with a view to ending the striking
action.
The lawmaker expressed optimism that if the legislature intervened in
the matter that the outcome would produce the desired result and as
well mitigate the negative effects on the students of the higher
institution.
Speaking also, Hon. Uche Ejiogu representing Ihitte Uboma state
constituency, commended such intervention by the legislature, arguing
that it would go a long way in restoring the confidence the students
have been enjoying in the education sector as revealed by imsuvila.
Ejiogu who is the adhoc committee chairman set up by the House with
the purpose of ending the strike, called on the parties to understand
with the committee.
