IMSU Strike: Alumni sue for mutual resolution

The Alumni of Imo State University (IMSU), Owerri has appealed to the
state government and Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU), IMSU
Chapter to reach mutual understanding that will put an end to the over
two months strike in the university
Speaking to Newsmen recently over the lingered strike action of the
ASUU in the institution, Mr. Chris A. E Anyanwu, National President of
the IMSU Alumni who spoke on behalf of the Alumni body expressed deep
concern on the negative effects of the strike on both education
development in the state and the academic/future lives of the
concerned students of the Imo state varsity.

According to him, there is urgent need for the state government and
ASUU to reach a compromise for the sake of the students who have been
languishing at home for the long period the strike action has lasted
adding that the continued strike of the university does no good to the
image of the state government especially on its love for education and
human development of the Imo people and youths.
He therefore called on ASUU to hearken to the pleads made by the
Alumni body, students and other concerned bodies for them to call off
the strike in the overall interest of the institution and her
students.

"We are deeply concerned over the lingered strike in IMSU. As the
by-products of the university, we have made concerted efforts to
ensure that the strike is called off. We have also done some
underground consultations and negotiations with all concerned bodies
in the strike on the need for them to allow academic activities of the
varsity to re-continue.

The Imo Stars President finally enjoined the students of the
institution to remain calm and exercise little more patience over the
situation assuring them that both the state government and ASUU in
their wisdom will soon see reasons and resolve their matters.

It will be recalled that last week IMSU students embarked on series of
peaceful protest to register their feelings over the prolonged strike
action as well as to appeal to the state governor/state government to
urgently resolve the issue of the ASUU strike in the institution in
the general interest of the students, ASUU and education in the state.
