Bill to establish Imo State University of Science & Technology passes second reading.

A bill for a law to establish the Imo State University of Science and
technology Ohaji/Egbema LGA has passed second reading in the Imo Sate
house of Assembly.
The chief Sponsor of the bill,Hon.Emmanuel Orie representing
Ohaji/Egbema state constituency Tuesday at the house plenary said that
the bill if passed into law would address youths restiveness in the
area.
Orie while elaborating on the structure of the proposed university of
Science and technology Egbema said that the
chairman governing council of the university shall hold office for the
period of three years from the date of the appointment and as well be
eligible for re-appointment.
The lawmaker further explained that among the members of the academic
board of the university, the bill provided for the inclusion of the
university Liberian and six members elected at a meeting of members of
academic staff.He further said that the academic board of the Egbema
university of Science and technology would also have direct control
over the academic activities of the university in order to ensure that
standard is sustained.The bill was supported by the deputy speaker
IMHA and other lawmakers,meanwhile,the speaker, Rt Hon.Acho Ihim
assigned the bill to the house committee on Education.
